The Real Reason Why GENE HOGLAN Left FEAR FACTORY! And No, It Is Not Because Of TESTAMENT!
As previously reported, Los Angeles based Industrial Metal machines FEAR FACTORY recorded their NEW album 'The Industrialist' (set to be released on June 5th via Candlelight Records) without a drummer, and they recently recruited drummer Mike Heller from MALGINANCY and SYSTEM DIVIDE for their tour with SHADOW'S FALL, THE BROWNING, THE DEVASTED, and LEGACY OF DISORDER!
So what happened with Gene Hoglan? While there have been speculations that Hoglan left FEAR FACTORY in order to join TESTAMENT, we were told be a very reliable source that the real reason behind Hoglan's departure is that Hoglan will be rejoining DETHKLOK on an upcoming tour (yet to be announced). So it really comes down to Hoglan going for the gig that offers him the biggest pay check. We personally don't blame him at all!
While Hoglan recorded drums on TESTAMENT's upcoming album 'The Dark Roots Of Earth' and has been touring with the band ever since last years tour with ANTHRAX and DEATH ANGEL, no official confirmation has come from TESTAMENT's camp regarding Hoglan becoming the bands permanent drummer.
Last night, FEAR FACTORY's "riffmanufacturer" Dino Cazarez put away any rumors that Hoglan left the band in bad terms when he posted the following Twit:
"Hanging with Gene on the flight back from Chile"

"It is an incredible honor to be chosen as the NEW drummer for FEAR FACTORY! It's something I never would have dreamt of as a kid listening to 'Soul Of A New Machine' and 'Demanufacture' over and over again in middle school. It's also an incredible honor to be following in the footsteps of two of the most amazing and influential drummers in metal drumming history. I hope to continue their legacy, creating some of the most forward-thinking and innovative music available today." - Mike Heller

FEAR FACTORY Unleash Special Trailer For 'The Industrialist; "Recharger" Confirmed As Lead Single!
FEAR FACTORY has released a special trailer that is a visual preview into the story behind their forthcoming NEW album, 'The Industrialist'. Set for release June 5, 'The Industrialist' is the second album written by vocalist Burton C. Bell and guitarist Dino Cazares since reuniting in 2009 after a seven-year split. An audio snippet for the album’s lead single, “Recharger,” is now available below; the single is available via iTunes, Amazon and other online retailers beginning April 24.
As previously announced, 'The Industrialist' is a conceptual record based around a short fiction written by Bell; lyrics to the album’s ten songs divulge the narrative as discussed recently by Bell with Decibel Magazine. The album will be available on three formats – standard CD, a limited edition deluxe digi-book (featuring two additional songs), and 180-gram double vinyl. Pre-orders for the album in all formats will be available shortly via Candlelight Records’ official web store.
Bell notes, “the protagonist (The Industrialist) is the incarnation of all industries in the form of an automaton. The mechanical, technological, and scientific advances through the industrial age led to the creation of The Industrialist. In the story, the automaton becomes sentient as it collects memories with each passing day. Through observation and learning, it gains the will to exist. What was meant to help man, will eventually be man’s demise.”
'The Industrialist' follows the 2010 release of 'Mechanize'. Widely regarded, the album was the first release from FEAR FACTORY in six years. Mechanize debuted on Billboard’s Top 100 album chart week of release and topped CMJ’s Loud Rock radio chart as programmers embraced the band’s triumphant return. Sirius XM and Headbangers Ball’s host Jose Mangin noted, “after Mechanize dominated 2010 as Liquid Metal’s Album Of The Year, North America is chompin’ at the bit to get an ear full of new Fear Factory. I have no doubt that FEAR FACTORY are going to kick our collective asses in 2012.”
Members of FEAR FACTORY are currently in Los Angeles rehearsing for upcoming performances in South America followed by their first U.S. tour since late 2010. Bell and Cazares presented members of Slipknot the “Comeback Of The Year” award last week at the 4th Annual Revolver Golden God Awards; an award they were nominated for in 2010. Xbox broadcast the program, including pre-ceremony black carpet interviews, to all game console owners; Revolver Magazine streamed the event live via their Facebook page. Rebroadcast information will be announced by Revolver Magazine shortly.

The album will be available on three formats – standard CD, a limited edition deluxe digi-book (featuring two additional songs), and 180-gram double vinyl.
'The Industrialist' again pairs FEAR FACTORY with producer Rhys Fulber. Mixed by Greg Reely (Paradise Lost/Skinny Puppy/Machine Head), with additional tracking by Logan Mader (Gojira/Divine Heresy), the album is the second written by Bell and guitarist Dino Cazares since reuniting in 2009 after a seven year split. Cazares says, “collaborating with Burton again on the NEW album was like magic. Everything just fell into place naturally. It felt good to recapture the true sound of FEAR FACTORY, taking it back to where it all started while raising it to NEW levels.” Regarding Fulber Cazares notes, “Rhys has been our secret member,” shares Cazares. “He is the one producer who has been able to understand what we have been trying to accomplish from the beginning and has opened our eyes to new things without sacrificing our original sound. His production and keyboard talents has made FEAR FACTORY stand out amongst the many bands of our genre.”
'The Industrialist' follows the 2010 release of 'Mechanize'. Widely regarded, the album was the first release from FEAR FACTORY in six years. 'Mechanize' debuted on Billboard’s Top 100 album chart week of release and topped CMJ’s Loud Rock radio chart as programmers embraced the band’s triumphant return. Sirus XM and Headbangers Ball’s host Jose Mangin noted, “after Mechanize dominated 2010 as Liquid Metal’s Album Of The Year, North America is chompin’ at the bit to get an ear full of new FEAR FACTORY. I have no doubt that FEAR FACTORY are going to kick our collective asses in 2012.”

FEAR FACTORY Records NEW Album Without A Drummer? Is Gene Hoglan Still In The Band?
The mystery behind whither or not drumming legend Gene Hoglan is still part of FEAR FACTORY, and whither he recorded drums on the bands NEW album 'The Industrialist' has come to an end. Recently, a reliable source close to the FEAR FACTORY camp told us that Hoglan is no longer part of FEAR FACTORY and that he did NOT record any drums for 'The Industrialist'. He also informed us that the drums on the NEW FEAR FACTORY were all programmed.
Last month, we asked Hoglan if he recorded drums on the NEW Fear Factory album 'The Industrialist' (slated to be released in late April via Candlelight Records). We also asked him if he plans on joining legendary Thrash Metallers TESTAMENT full time, whom with he recorded their upcoming album entitled 'The Dark Roots Of Earth' (set to be released in late April/early May via Nuclear Blast Records) and played drums on most of their recent series of tours with ANTHRAX and DEATH ANGEL. Here is what he had to say at the time.
"Right now I am taking things day by day. Sometimes you really have to be careful with what you wish for."
When we recently spoke with TESTAMENT's frontman Chuck Billy, we asked him what the bands drummer situation is. Here is what he had to say about this:
"We'd like him (Gene Hoglan) to be, but I think right now we're just taking it tour by tour. We don't know yet. We just kind of unexpectedly had to do this tour before the record came out, so we haven't really thought about it yet."

FEAR FACTORY Announce Album Release Date; Additional Performances Added To U.S. Tour!
Candlelight Records today confirms June 5 as the North American release date for FEAR FACTORY's NEW album, 'The Industrialist'. Produced by the band with Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly), the album was mixed by Greg Reely (Paradise Lost/Skinny Puppy/Machine Head). It features additional tracking by Logan Mader (Gojira/Divine Heresy/Five Finger Death Punch) and artwork by Anthony Clarkson (Devin Townsend).
The Industrialist is a conceptual album that brings to life a story scripted by vocalist Burton C. Bell. The album's lyrics detail the plot of the original narrative while delivering FEAR FACTORY's massive signature sound.
"The album is a futuristic tale of an automaton, striving to survive by fighting for its existence within a desperate world. The lyrics tell the story while the music takes our industrial roots and blends them more perfectly than ever with our Metal edge. And all without losing the sound that makes FEAR FACTORY a machine of sonic devastation. FEAR FACTORY fans of any era will not be disappointed." - Burton C. Bell (Vocalist)
Clocking in at just under one hour, the album's ten songs again unite Bell with guitarist Dino Cazares. It is the second album written by the duo, reuniting in 2009 after a seven year split. Cazares says, "collaborating with Burton again on the NEW album was like magic. Everything just fell into place naturally. It felt good to recapture the true sound of FEAR FACTORY, taking it back to where it all started while raising it to NEW levels."
'The Industrialist' again pairs FEAR FACTORY with long-time friend Rhys Fulber. Their collaborations together include five albums and two remixes, including the certified gold album 'Obsolete'. "Rhys has been our secret member," shares Cazares. "He is the one producer who has been able to understand what we have been trying to accomplish from the beginning and has opened our eyes to NEW things without sacrificing our original sound. His talents in production and keyboard/samples has made FEAR FACTORY stand out amongst the many bands of our genre."
'The Industrialist' follows the 2010 release of 'Mechanize'. Widely regarded, the album was the first release from the band in six years and the first NEW material from the nucleus of Bell and Cazares since 2002. The album debuted on Billboard's Top 100 album chart week of release and continues to sell in early 2012. Sirius XM/Headbangers Ball's host Jose Mangin comments, “after Mechanize dominated 2010 as Liquid Metal’s Album Of The Year, North America is chompin’ at the bit to get an ear full of NEW FEAR FACTORY. I have no doubt that FEAR FACTORY are going to kick our collective asses in 2012."
Revolver editor Brandon Geist adds, "in the '90s, FEAR FACTORY's founding duo of Burton C. Bell and Dino Cazares changed the sound of Metal, from the way that Metal vocalists sing to the way that Metal and electronic music can be fused together. With 2010's reunion album, 'Mechanize', their partnership proved to be as lethal as ever. Though 2012 promises plenty of massive Heavy Music releases, there isn't a record that I'm looking forward to more than The Industrialist."
FEAR FACTORY recently announced their first tour dates since 2011. Joining them for the tour that is set to kick off on May 1 is Boston's SHADOWS FALL, Kansas City-based The Browning, Riverside, California’s The Devastated, and Legacy Of Disorder from New Zealand. The complete list of confirmed dates are:
